Kiel Week - New boat, new venue and lots of wind!
In June we set up base camp in Kiel, Germany for the legendary Keiler Woche Regatta, which claims to be the largest regatta in the world. Hundreds of European sailors camped at the venue and enjoyed the European “summer weather,” as we sported our thickest, warmest wetsuits for the daily rain showers, brisk temps in the 60’s and ice cold water.

We also took delivery of a shiny, brand-new boat right before the event, and she’s a beauty! We used Kiel Week as a tune-up for the European Championships, which were a month later in the same venue, and walked away with our share of learning moments! We were stoked to make Gold Fleet and have a chance to match up against the best teams in challenging conditions. Some of the breezy races were sailed in 20+ knots, and we were reminded how unforgiving the boat can be when even Gold Fleet was reduced to carnage and capsizes.

We finished Kiel Week in 17th out of the 54 boat fleet, and were grateful for the practice in such challenging conditions that we don’t often see at home!
