Princess Sofia Trophy in Palma de Mallorca, Spain - After 13 races over five gnarly and wavy sailing days, we ended the regatta in ninth overall out of a 54-boat fleet. We went into this regatta without a specific performance expectation, so we are very pleased to walk away in the top ten. We also rallied after some unforced errors, including two UFD penalties (for being over the starting line early) and one capsize in the second race. Full Results | Tracking

Maggie's insights from the regatta: "This regatta was very windy, which was physically grueling given that my fitness is not yet 100%. Strength, agility, and stamina take months to rebuild. Having only returned to the boat six weeks prior to racing, I knew that our boat handling in Palma was not going to be perfect. Palma’s big waves and cold air are always a shock when we come from the sunny, flat waters of Miami, but this year was particularly sporty! We found moments to laugh about our sloppiness while still managing to focus on the important things that affect the outcome of the race. Steph was patient when spinnaker sets took uncharacteristically long, and I spent more time than I'm proud to admit crawling on the boat or swimming after it. But we took it all in stride, and that’s a huge growth moment for the team. I continue to be proud of our grit and resilience as a team."

Our main objective at this event was to work on our racing processes, for example, the timing and substance of race course communication. We're examining how consistency and regularity of input can help us anticipate decision points around the racecourse. Refining our communication as a team is always a work in progress!

Palma was our first chance to race with the new generation of 3Di 49er sails and CST mast. In the past, our boat speed has always been a strength; we felt versatile and confident in all conditions. But the new sails are cut differently than the old generation. The mainsails have more twisted leeches and the jibs are much fuller. At this point, we have to have an open mind and eagerness to learn.

We only sailed one race in less than 15 knots of breeze. We found that trimming the controls is visually very different from the older versions of transparent mylar because the 3Di material is opaque. We learned a lot about tuning the mast for big breeze and waves, but we are still in the early stages of developing a tuning guide for the mast in all conditions.
We congratulate our teammates who posted great results at the Princess Sofia Trophy! Daniella Moroz won the Formula Kite Women's Class. Ian Barrows and Hans Henken finished 2nd overall in the 49er. And Andrew Mollerus and Ian Macdiarmid finished in 5th place. GO USA! Read more about our fellow Americans here
53rd French Olympic Week of Hyères, France -  For the second and last time this year, the ten classes of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will compete in the same place at the same time. We will race on the Mediterranean in Hyeres, France, which is 50 miles east of Marseille. We hope to learn about the Med's wind patterns and the host country of the 2024 Olympics. We expect the fleet to be as strong as it was in Palma, and we're excited to continue working on our racing processes.
